On July 31, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia, the internationalization of the the Grace Brethren Movement hit a new peak.  The new executive director of the FGBC USA is Canadian… eh!  Congrats to is Bartley Sawatsky as he serves our Fellowship over the next 3 years.

Bartley began his term with a presentation to the national conference. His humorous and candid talk was energizing. You should listen to it all, but the point of this post is to get to a 10 minute part where Bartley WASN’T talking!

The second point of Bartley’s presentation addressed one of the most important pieces of the future of the Grace Brethren Movement– clearly settling WHO WE ARE.  He asked Dave Guiles, executive director of Encompass World Partners, to explain the Identity Initiative.

Dave shared some history and reality about Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches and our place in the global fraternity of Grace Brethren–the Charis movement. This Identity Initiative is going well beyond tweaking our 1960’s Statement of Faith into a global discussion of who we are!  Dave’s insightful sharing about the rationale and the process we will be walking through over the next few years is worth a listen! So listen in…

Important in the process will be the upcoming FOCUS Retreats. These are actually one of my favorite things our movement does! If you want to find out more about those check them out here.
