Back To God’s Village – The Gospel in an HonorShame Worldview

Today, I was part of an intriguing conversation about HonorShame cultures. It was a challenging and captivating couple of hours. In short descriptions, here’s what Honor and shame are all about:

Honor = “acknowledgement of worth”

  • Value, respect, status, face, prestige, reputation, dignity

Shame = “negative public rating”

  • A illustrative Scripture:

    You have made us a reproach to our neighbors,
        the scorn and derision of those around us.
     You have made us a byword among the nations;
        the peoples shake their heads at us.
     I live in disgrace all day long,
        and my face is covered with shame.
